Learning game: Discover roofing knowledge through play

What is the difference between a clay roof tile and a concrete roof tile? Why does a flat roof need a slope? What functions do a vapor retarder, gutter or emergency drainage system serve? The new DenkRadar learning game “Roofing” teaches 50 important technical terms related to roofs.

The learning resource is aimed in particular at apprentices in their first year of training in the roofing trade. It is also suitable for private builders and homeowners who are planning a roof renovation, repair or replacement and want to better understand conversations with roofing professionals.

Topics covered

The 50 terms come from eight areas:

• Roof renovation, repair and maintenance
• Pitched roofs and roof coverings
• Flat roofs and green roofs
• Thermal insulation and energy efficiency
• Drainage and structural details
• Metalwork and modern roof design
• Planning, law and funding
• Workplace safety

Alongside basic terms such as roof tile, gutter and flat roof, more advanced topics are also explained—for example, wind uplift protection, U-value, emergency drainage and standing seam technology. Short definitions and examples from day-to-day work make them easier to understand.

How to use the learning game

You can start by opening the integrated glossary, where you can read about all the terms, along with their explanations and practical examples. Then you can choose from three ways to learn:

• The term cards let you explore and review the material at your own pace.
• The quiz tests whether you can identify the correct explanations.
• In the matching game, you have to correctly match technical terms with their meanings.

To fully master a term, you should successfully complete all three learning modes. The progress indicator helps you keep track of how much you have learned. Mistakes are absolutely fine: you can practise terms again if you are unsure of the answer.

You can start the game directly in your browser without registering. You can play on your own, together in class or as a supplement to a training session. It is also a great way to prepare for conversations with customers, as it explains important technical terms in an easy-to-understand way.

Privacy while playing

Your personal learning progress is stored only locally in the browser on the device you are using. Your game progress is not transmitted to the server or linked to a user account.

If you want to remove your progress, you can reset it directly in the learning game. Deleting your local browser data will also remove your saved progress. You do not need to sign in or enter any personal information to use the game.
